Artist: Shepard Fairey Title:  PRINT AND DESTROY - Hand signed by artist, Shepard Fairey - Offset Lithograph on Offset lithograph on cream Speckletone paper - Size: 24 inches x 36 inches (60.96cm x 91.44cm). - In Pristine condition - actual year with signature is 22 (not 21) About this piece: " The title “Print & Destroy” is a nod to the phrase “Skate and Destroy” coined by C.R. Stecyk. Street art and skateboarding share a lot of the same rebellious energy. I’m a product of the era of mass production, and the mass culture printing has created. I can’t imagine my art practice without the influence of, and the use of, printing. Some of my biggest art influences were not paintings but printed things like album covers, skateboard graphics, punk flyers, and t-shirt designs. The printing press began the democratization of art, and I have used printed posters to spread my artwork and messages in public spaces as well as keep my art affordable by printing multiples. I believe in art as a part of public dialogue, and my Obey Giant street art campaign aspires to arrest visually and provoke intellectually by using printed posters in competition with commercial advertising. Some people say print will be wiped out by digital media, but I say you can never replace the provocative, tactile experience of a print on the street or in a gallery. Printing still matters. – Shepard" About the artist: " Frank Shepard Fairey (born February 15, 1970) is an American contemporary artist, activist and founder of OBEY clothing who emerged from the skateboarding scene. In 1989 he designed the "Andre the Giant Has a Posse" (...OBEY...) sticker campaign while attending the Rhose Island School of Design (RISD). Fairey designed the Barack Obama "Hope poster for the 2008 U.S. presidential election. The Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston has described him as one of the best known and most influential street artists. His work is included in the collections at The Smithsonian, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, the National Portrait Galley in Washington, D.C., the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. His style has been described as a "bold iconic style that is based on styling and idealizing images." Colors of actual artwork may vary slightly from colors on your screen due to digital screen calibration varying between digital devices.
